(Dan Tri) – The number of imported cars in May continued to decrease sharply amid general market difficulties and poor consumption, causing dealers to have many cars produced in 2022 left in stock.

According to data released by the General Department of Customs, a total of 7,608 cars of all types were imported to Vietnam in May, reaching a turnover of 191.2 million USD.

In particular, Indonesia suddenly surpassed Thailand, becoming the market exporting the most cars to Vietnam, with a quantity of 2,966 units.

This is the second consecutive month the number of imported cars has decreased sharply, but cumulatively in the first 5 months of this year, the number of cars arriving at the port has increased in both quantity and value compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, our country’s four-wheel market has been continuously gloomy since the beginning of this year due to the impact of general difficulties of the economy.

In March, car importers proposed a 50% reduction in registration fees but it was not approved (Photo: Audi).

For example, Subaru Forester, this C-size crossover model, was offered by dealers for 2022 VIN cars in June with a discount of 170-200 million VND depending on the version, bringing the actual selling price of the highest version down to 999 million VND.

Another example is the Honda Civic, which is also a complete import from Thailand like the Forester, with a dealer discount of up to 100 million VND for the highest RS version.

In addition to the 2022 VIN lot, Subaru Forester VIN 2023 cars are also offered for sale by many dealers with the highest discount of up to 122 million VND (Photo: Subaru).

The business situation of domestically assembled cars is also not positive.

Typically, the Hyundai Santa Fe model used to `call rain and wind` in the SUV segment in 2022, but by June 2023 it still could not push out all inventory.

This car model is being offered by dealers with a discount of up to 200 million VND for the VIN 2022 Premium Oil version, with some places applying incentives of up to 300 million VND, bringing the actual selling price down to only

In the luxury car segment, the incentive race is even more `fierce`.

The old Mercedes-Benz GLC (code X253) received 100% registration fee support from the manufacturer, equivalent to a direct reduction of about 200 million VND because this car model has been upgraded to a new generation since May.

Before the incentive program of direct competitor BMW X3, a dealer in Hanoi is offering to sell these old GLC 300 4Matic with a discount of up to 500 million VND but in limited quantity.

Facing the difficulties facing the Vietnamese automobile market, the Government recently agreed to reduce registration fees by 50% for domestically assembled vehicles, expected to apply from July 1.
