According to Mr. Ri, in exchange for the above proposal, North Korea only asked the US to lift part of the sanctions against Pyongyang, not all of it.
“Basically they (North Korea) want the sanctions to be completely lifted, but we cannot do that.

Previously, the second US-North Korea summit between North Korean President Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump ended at noon on February 28 without any general agreement being signed.
During a press conference at the Marriott Hotel at 3:00 p.m. on February 28, right before leaving Vietnam, US President Donald Trump said that he and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un had not reached a mutual agreement after the meetings.
Mr. Trump said that Mr. Kim is willing to dismantle the Yongbyon nuclear facility, but wants all sanctions to be removed first, and Mr. Trump does not agree with this proposal.
When asked who decided to stop today’s negotiations, President Trump said: `I don’t want to say it was my decision because for what purpose would that be? However we will maintain our relationship.`
