`President Putin expressed hope that all sides will show appropriate restraint and will not allow a new round of confrontation that will cause catastrophic consequences for the entire region,` the Kremlin announced on June 16.

The Kremlin described the situation as becoming more serious after Israel and its allies intercepted missiles launched by Iran over the weekend.

Tehran said the airstrike on Israel was in response to an attack that Tehran accused Israel of carrying out on Iran’s diplomatic building in Damascus, Syria earlier this month.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that, together with the US and UK, Tel Aviv has neutralized 99% of nearly 300 drones and missiles launched into Israel.

An Israeli official told CNN that a meeting between Israel’s war cabinet officials on the country’s response to Iran’s retaliatory attacks has ended.

`Mr. Ebrahim Raisi noted that Iran’s actions are forced and limited in nature. At the same time, he emphasized that Tehran is not interested in further escalation of tensions,` the Kremlin added.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the current crisis in the Middle East is the result of another failed US plan.

`They (the US) did everything they could to isolate this situation and isolate Israel from the opportunity to rely on international law just because of America’s own ambitions. A lot was at stake. That led to this.

Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow `is counting on countries in the region to help resolve current problems through political and diplomatic measures`, after Iran’s airstrike broke out.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that Moscow has repeatedly warned that `the lack of solutions to many crises in the Middle East, mainly in the Palestine-Israel conflict area` will further escalate instability.

Russia generally maintains good relations with all powers in the Middle East.
