According to Mr. Stoltenberg, Kiev has not asked Western countries to deploy soldiers to Ukraine.
Since the beginning of this year, French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly said that the West does not rule out the scenario of deploying military forces to Ukraine to support training for the Kiev army.
Mr. Macron’s idea has been met with mixed opinions.
British newspaper Financial Times, citing well-informed sources, said that Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte announced on May 7 that Lithuania is ready to deploy its soldiers on Ukrainian soil to perform training missions.
Countries such as the US and Germany are concerned that deploying troops in Ukraine could lead to direct conflict with Russia and lead to world war.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned earlier this month that the deployment of NATO troops to a war zone could eventually spark a full-scale nuclear war.
Similar statements were also recently made by Italy and the UK.
To prevent speculation on this topic, NATO is expected to officially oppose sending troops to Ukraine with a policy statement at the bloc’s summit in Washington in July, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported.
Most Western nations have suggested that, instead of discussing troop deployments, the bloc should focus on military and financial support for Ukraine.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine could lead to a direct confrontation between Russia and the US-led alliance.
The Russian Foreign Ministry warned the Ukrainian government and Western donors that their `reckless behavior` is pushing the conflict in Ukraine to `critical and explosive` levels.
